Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Connor Lew got past him. The 49ers do not have to explain a thing at pick 127. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 27 they get a ballhawk on the outside, and a steal at that.
Caleb Banks at the 58th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Connor Lew at Round 4, Pick 27 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay De'Zhaun Stribling at pick 133 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value with a capital V on Jude Bowry in the 138th overall pick, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 139 with a little surplus value in Oscar Delp. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
