The rest of the league had time to spare on Nadame Tucker; the 49ers did not wait, grabbing him 45 spots ahead at pick No. 127.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Getting Delp where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A premium they did not need to pay, Emmanuel Pregnon a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Josiah Trotter at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nadame Tucker. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Reggie Virgil in the 133rd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nice patience on Oscar Delp, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 39. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A wild overpay on Aamil Wagner in slot 147, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
John Michael Gyllenborg at slot 209 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
