Boards are made to be trusted, and the 49ers shredded theirs for Keagen Trost. He came off 47 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They will answer for taking cornerback early while wide receiver, running back and other spots went begging. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Hill Jr..
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and wide receiver is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line. The biggest hole, addressed.
They will replay Anthony Hill Jr. at No. 58 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A real head-scratcher, Treydan Stukes in the Round 2 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Gabe Jacas at the 63rd pick is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Davison Igbinosun in slot 127 leaves wide receiver, running back and other spots for later.
They reached into another round for Keagen Trost, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached a country mile for Louis Moore at the 138th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid sticker price for Chris McClellan in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
