The 49ers spent real capital to be 42 picks early on Febechi Nwaiwu, and the board is going to hold them to it.

Spending an early pick on cornerback with running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Scott.

In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · KC Concepcion · WR · rank 27
In the 25th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Dillon Thieneman · S · rank 35
Dillon Thieneman at slot 34 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Derrick Moore · DE-EDGE · rank 62
They took Derrick Moore at par in pick 58, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Keionte Scott · CB · rank 61
They let Keionte Scott come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.25 · Pick 89 · Treydan Stukes · CB · rank 96
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Treydan Stukes at cornerback with running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots open.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Keylan Rutledge · OG · rank 114
A premium they did not need to pay, Keylan Rutledge a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · J.C. Davis · OT · rank 139
They paid up for J.C. Davis at No. 127 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Febechi Nwaiwu · OG · rank 175
A big swing on Febechi Nwaiwu at the 133rd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.38 · Pick 138 · Jakobe Thomas · S · rank 141
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick No. 138 on Jakobe Thomas with running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved.
R4.39 · Pick 139 · Nadame Tucker · DE-EDGE · rank 174
Nadame Tucker in the 139th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
R5.3 · Pick 143 · CJ Daniels · WR · rank 143
No drama and no debate, CJ Daniels went about where he belonged in pick 143. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
