The rest of the league will want that one back. Michael Taaffe tumbling to the Vikings in slot 234 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They left with safety solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sonny Styles. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They took Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at par in No. 49, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Circle this one: Jake Slaughter at pick 82 is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Mike Washington Jr. in slot 103 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
D'Angelo Ponds at Round 4, Pick 12 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They robbed the room for Sam Roush here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
Michael Taaffe in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
