The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Tre Harris, the No. 31 name on the board, sitting there at the 136th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a premier pass rusher, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
They let Josh Simmons come to them and pounced at No. 34. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a cornerback like Jahdae Barron reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Walter Nolen in pick 65, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; Ashton Jeanty at the 87th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A linebacker of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 24 is the definition of value, full stop. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Tre Harris at the 136th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Circle this one: Trey Amos at slot 158 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jake Majors at the 196th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
