The Texans spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jordan Travis, the No. 132 name on the board, in the 163rd overall pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Melton pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 23 they get a ballhawk on the outside. More want than need.
Nothing to complain about; Ja'Tavion Sanders went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Roman Wilson at pick 90 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Fair-plus on Dillon Johnson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Max Melton at cornerback with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots open.
Jordan Travis at pick No. 163 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Eric Gentry in Round 7, Pick 19, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had Nathaniel Watson higher than the 247th overall pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
