The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Dwight McGlothern fell into the 216th pick. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The cost of the DeLoach reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Amarius Mims in the 24th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good price on Payton Wilson in Round 2, Pick 24, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jacob Cowing in the 174th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Dwight McGlothern still on the board at No. 216. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid a round early for Kalen DeLoach in pick 233, more than the board wanted. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Taking Garret Greenfield in slot 244 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
