The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Every board in the league had Bell lower, and that gap is the story. Getting Mustapha where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Jordan Morgan at pick 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Malachi Corley slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Christian Mahogany in Round 4, Pick 3 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jaheim Bell in pick No. 137 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Steele Chambers at the 180th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Malik Mustapha in slot 193 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Frank Gore Jr. in No. 231 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
