Las Vegas Raiders

Mendoza is the plan now, and the Raiders grade out a B.

The Raiders put a flag in the ground for Aidan Hubbard, 104 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

So much rides on Fernando Mendoza that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The phones were where this weekend was really won.

The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Getting Masses where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.1 · Pick 1 · Fernando Mendoza · QB · rank 4
In slot 1 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · Gennings Dunker · OT · rank 49
Gennings Dunker in No. 48 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.20 · Pick 52 · Lee Hunter · DT · rank 48
A clean, defensible pick in the 52nd pick with a little surplus value in Lee Hunter. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Jacob Rodriguez · LB · rank 72
Jacob Rodriguez at pick No. 67 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Elijah Sarratt · WR · rank 77
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Elijah Sarratt. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Ted Hurst · WR · rank 87
Good price on Ted Hurst in the Round 3 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Jalon Kilgore · CB · rank 100
Jalon Kilgore at the 102nd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Jakobe Thomas · S · rank 140
No drama and no debate, Jakobe Thomas went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.14 · Pick 154 · Beau Stephens · OG · rank 159
Beau Stephens in No. 154 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.20 · Pick 160 · Hezekiah Masses · CB · rank 138
Hezekiah Masses in pick No. 160 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.4 · Pick 185 · Pat Coogan · C · rank 199
They went early on Pat Coogan in pick 185, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.34 · Pick 215 · Kaelon Black · RB · rank 217
They paid sticker price for Kaelon Black in slot 215, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.41 · Pick 257 · Aidan Hubbard · DE-EDGE · rank 361
They talked themselves into Aidan Hubbard at Round 7, Pick 41, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
