Nobody had Trevin Wallace this high, and it is not close. The Packers reached 145 spots to get him at Round 3, Pick 25.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. With interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with interior defensive lineman still staring back at them.
Pick-by-Pick
Xavier Legette at the 41st overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A need, and now a little less of one.
Edgerrin Cooper at No. 51 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaden Hicks this early at slot 58. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No edge and no loss on Kiran Amegadjie in Round 3, Pick 2; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Elijah Jones at pick No. 79 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Ben Sinnott at the Round 3 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Trevin Wallace at linebacker with interior defensive lineman open.
They paid up for Christian Mahogany at pick 89 when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ray Davis. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Khristian Boyd well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jordan Travis at pick No. 126 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They liked Kitan Oladapo enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 143. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
The board had cheaper options than Brandon Coleman at the 169th pick, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
A big swing on Rasheen Ali at Round 6, Pick 27, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Myles Harden slipping to the Round 6 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
