The board owed the Vikings one, and it paid up: Connor Lew, the No. 84 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 4 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Payne pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Bottom line, with Peter Woods leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.8 · Pick 40 · Peter Woods · DT · rank 30
Peter Woods is a better player than the 40th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Jake Golday · OLB · rank 62
Somehow Jake Golday was still sitting there in pick 82, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.16 · Pick 116 · Connor Lew · C · rank 84
They will replay Connor Lew at the Round 4 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.15 · Pick 155 · Oscar Delp · TE · rank 133
Oscar Delp in pick No. 155 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.23 · Pick 163 · Hezekiah Masses · CB · rank 139
You do not let a cornerback like Hezekiah Masses reach the 163rd overall pick and blink. They did not. A minor itch, scratched.
R5.28 · Pick 168 · Ephesians Prysock · CB · rank 192
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ephesians Prysock well ahead of where he belonged. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R5.29 · Pick 169 · VJ Payne · S · rank 200
Value said wait; VJ Payne in No. 169 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.15 · Pick 196 · Kaleb Elarms-Orr · LB · rank 181
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kaleb Elarms-Orr at Round 6, Pick 15 is the proof. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R7.18 · Pick 234 · Kaden Wetjen · WR · rank 233
Kaden Wetjen in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.28 · Pick 244 · Eli Heidenreich · WR · rank 250
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Eli Heidenreich. It fills a real need, too.
