Start where it matters. The Patriots took Bo Nix to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Bo Nix and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 19 they get a long-term answer under center, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
They read the board right and Tyler Guyton was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, T.J. Tampa at pick 52 squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No edge and no loss on Cade Stover in No. 68; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They did well to land Jalen McMillan in slot 103, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in the 106th overall pick, where Bucky Irving graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Jaylin Simpson at the 137th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Grayson Murphy at Round 6, Pick 5 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Curtis Jacobs. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
