Somebody in the 112th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Domonique Orange, the No. 73 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They are betting Tucker proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Arvell Reese at the 12th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
In pick 20 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board had cheaper options than Malik Muhammad at Round 3, Pick 28, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Domonique Orange all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They talked themselves into Nadame Tucker at the 152nd pick, and the board did not agree. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Travis Burke in pick No. 177. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jeff Caldwell in slot 180 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Bobby Jamison-Travis at No. 218 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
