The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Ryan Flournoy, the No. 203 name on the board, sitting there at the 255th pick like a gift left on the doorstep. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Bortolini reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a blindside protector at fair value. A real need, handled.
Graham Barton slipping to the 41st pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Junior Colson in pick No. 62 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A tidy little value on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Gabriel Murphy at pick 91 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Maason Smith in Round 4, Pick 13, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tanor Bortolini this early at the 153rd overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: Mason McCormick still on the board at No. 165. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 169 with a little surplus value in Walter Rouse. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Sione Vaki is a better player than the 175th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Value said wait; Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 202 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jordan Magee in the 219th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They will replay Johnny Dixon at slot 220 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had Garret Greenfield higher than Round 7, Pick 8, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
Austin Reed in No. 245 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They robbed the room for Ryan Flournoy here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
