Grand theft in slot 212: the Browns steal Murdock and grade out a B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Browns were there to profit. Red Murdock, the No. 193 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 212.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Proctor pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.6 · Pick 6 · Kadyn Proctor · OT · rank 14
In No. 6 they get a blindside protector, even if it was a touch early.
R1.31 · Pick 31 · Chris Brazzell II · WR · rank 29
In pick No. 31 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Chris Johnson · CB · rank 32
Chris Johnson at Round 2, Pick 7 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Christen Miller · DL · rank 56
Christen Miller at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Josiah Trotter · LB · rank 57
Josiah Trotter at pick 70 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Emmett Johnson · RB · rank 104
Good price on Emmett Johnson in the 107th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.6 · Pick 146 · Jaeden Roberts · OG · rank 150
No drama and no debate, Jaeden Roberts went about where he belonged in the 146th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.9 · Pick 149 · Oscar Delp · TE · rank 132
Nice patience on Oscar Delp, who had no business lasting to slot 149. It fills a real need, too.
R6.25 · Pick 206 · Cole Payton · QB · rank 198
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cole Payton in Round 6, Pick 25. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.31 · Pick 212 · Red Murdock · LB · rank 193
Taking Red Murdock in pick No. 212 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R7.32 · Pick 248 · Dane Key · WR · rank 234
A tidy bit of business in the 248th pick, where Dane Key graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
