Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings cashed the board's mistake on Jones: B+.

The board owed the Vikings one, and it paid up: Jarrian Jones, the No. 149 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 6 slot like a gift left on the doorstep.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. They will need Milton III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.5 · Pick 37 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 41
No drama and no debate, Chris Braswell went about where he belonged in slot 37. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 49
T.J. Tampa at the 65th overall pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A minor itch, scratched.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Bralen Trice · DE-EDGE · rank 69
The board had Bralen Trice higher than pick No. 78, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 79
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaylen Wright in No. 84. The roster fit checks out.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Malik Washington · WR · rank 98
They read the board right and Malik Washington was the payoff at the 109th pick. It fills a real need, too.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Tyler Davis · DT · rank 119
Nice patience on Tyler Davis, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.20 · Pick 156 · Kalen King · CB · rank 140
Kalen King slid further than he should have, and pick 156 is lovely value for the cornerback. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 156
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kitan Oladapo at Round 5, Pick 30 is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 149
Jarrian Jones at pick 179 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 177
Ty'Ron Hopper in the Round 6 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 199
A conviction pick on Joe Milton III at the 190th overall pick that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 180
Caedan Wallace at slot 202 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Sheridan Jones · CB · rank 232
Sheridan Jones in pick No. 256 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
