The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
No drama and no debate, Troy Fautanu went about where he belonged in pick No. 36. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Nate Wiggins in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Landon Jackson in the 68th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Luke Lachey in pick 100 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
MarShawn Lloyd at No. 104 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Payton Wilson at slot 141 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A clean, defensible pick in the 182nd overall pick with a little surplus value in Dorian Singer. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good price on Marques Cox in pick 225, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
