When the story of this class is written, it opens with Patrick Payton at pick 197, a reach of 50 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
On value alone, Golday makes the weekend a net positive. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a ballhawk on the back end, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Germie Bernard at pick 54 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, A.J. Haulcy in slot 68, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Jake Golday in the 98th pick is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A real head-scratcher, Dametrious Crownover in No. 114 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A premium they did not need to pay, Charles Demmings a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 153 with a little surplus value in Jaeden Roberts. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
