The board owed the Jaguars one, and it paid up: Sam Hecht, the No. 91 name on the board, sitting there at No. 124 like a gift left on the doorstep. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The cost of the Lucas reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Caleb Tiernan in pick 56; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Skyler Bell went about where he belonged in No. 81. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Daylen Everette in the 88th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They jumped the gun on Anthony Lucas, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board fumbled Sam Hecht all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Kevin Coleman Jr. at Round 5, Pick 24, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A slide stopped in pick No. 166, with Kaytron Allen worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
