The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched Chimere Dike slide 35 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They will need Burch to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a rangy last line of defense at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jordan Burch well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A premium they did not need to pay, Ozzy Trapilo a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Logan Brown at par in Round 5, Pick 9, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Luke Lachey in the 207th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick 238 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nick Martin at pick No. 250 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
