The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Cedric Johnson, taking him 57 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Liufau pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid sticker price for Payton Wilson in slot 63, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had Marist Liufau higher than Round 3, Pick 32, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A big swing on Cedric Johnson at the 98th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A minor itch, scratched.
Jordan Jefferson in pick No. 124 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Gabe Hall, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on Sheridan Jones at pick 212, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ja'Had Carter at slot 245 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
