Somebody in slot 157 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Dolphins sat still while Max Melton, the No. 76 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Garrett Bradbury deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Amarius Mims in No. 26 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ja'Lynn Polk at pick No. 76 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Marshawn Kneeland in Round 3, Pick 26. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Mekhi Wingo at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on James Williams. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Circle this one: Gabriel Murphy at slot 125 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Max Melton all the way to the 157th pick, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Dallin Holker slid further than he should have, and the 158th overall pick is lovely value for the tight end. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Jefferson at the 184th pick squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good price on Justin Rogers in Round 6, Pick 23, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Cornelius Johnson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A tidy bit of business in slot 241, where Trevin Wallace graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
