The Joshua Cephus pick is the one that will follow the Chiefs into the fall. They took him 84 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Jackson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
A reach on T'Vondre Sweat in slot 37; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid a round early for Jaylen Wright in the 64th pick, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Khyree Jackson in the Round 3 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A conviction pick on Javon Foster at pick 106 that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Theo Johnson at No. 133, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Mason McCormick, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A real head-scratcher, Tahj Washington in slot 158 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Joshua Cephus at No. 172 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
