Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Emeka Egbuka got past him. The Chiefs do not have to explain a thing at the Round 2 slot.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it. The dealing was even money, start to finish.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board fumbled Emeka Egbuka all the way to the 60th pick, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 26, where D.J. James graded well above the range. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A straight-up fair deal on Justin Rogers at the 125th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Malachi Moore in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid sticker price for LaDarius Henderson in pick No. 171, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tyler Batty at slot 172 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Theo Johnson in pick 175 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Ricky Pearsall at No. 203 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
