Call it larceny. Ryan Fitzgerald sat on the board until pick 247, and the Commanders did not need to be asked twice.
Weaver has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a sticky cover corner at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Elic Ayomanor went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tate Ratledge in slot 79 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Elijah Arroyo in pick 131, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Barrett Carter at No. 147 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Cam Skattebo in the 166th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Smael Mondon Jr. at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
This one needs a full-page explanation: J.C. Davis in the 225th overall pick, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A big swing on Steven Parker at No. 233, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached a country mile for J.J. Weaver at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Ryan Fitzgerald at pick No. 247 for years; that is how good the value is. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
