The Deven Eastern selection is the head-turner. The Steelers reached 49 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The Taaffe value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 21 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value.
Chris Brazzell II at the 36th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Max Klare in Round 3, Pick 12, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Michael Taaffe at No. 85 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Drew Allar in pick No. 135, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Thaddeus Dixon. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Harrison Wallace III in the 224th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Deven Eastern at No. 230 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Isaiah Jatta at pick 237 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
