The Commanders went off the board in a big way for Cade Stover, 32 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.

Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That Turner pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · JC Latham · OT · rank 15
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a blindside protector. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Dallas Turner · LB-EDGE · rank 22
They read the board right and Dallas Turner was the payoff at pick No. 36. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 24
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Graham Barton in the 37th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Keon Coleman · WR · rank 39
Keon Coleman at No. 43 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 74
They paid sticker price for Sedrick Van Pran in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 93
Zak Zinter at pick 75 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Christian Haynes · OG · rank 89
No drama and no debate, Christian Haynes went about where he belonged in pick 82. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Blake Fisher · OT · rank 112
Blake Fisher in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Cade Stover · TE · rank 136
They talked themselves into Cade Stover at pick No. 104, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 162
Jaylan Ford at No. 141 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 198
A premium they did not need to pay, Darius Robinson a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Reuben Fatheree II · OT · rank 231
They took Reuben Fatheree II at par in the 225th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
