They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

However the rest shakes out, McCaffrey at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting Allen proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.8 · Pick 8 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In pick No. 8 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
R1.27 · Pick 27 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 23
Troy Fautanu in Round 1, Pick 27 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 32
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Adonai Mitchell. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 68
Patrick Paul in slot 68 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 56
Mike Sainristil in pick 74 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 108
Braelon Allen at the 90th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Malik Washington · WR · rank 96
Malik Washington at No. 103 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Josh Newton · CB · rank 122
Josh Newton slipping to the Round 5 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R6.5 · Pick 180 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 149
They barely believed it either: Luke McCaffrey still on the board at Round 6, Pick 5. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Sione Vaki · S · rank 158
The board fumbled Sione Vaki all the way to slot 186, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.18 · Pick 193 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 173
Jordan Travis in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.11 · Pick 231 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 216
A tidy bit of business in pick 231, where Garret Greenfield graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
