The Packers worked the phones like thieves and earned a B.

The Packers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Taulia Tagovailoa at slot 245 regardless, 43 picks early.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Taylor-Demerson pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 26
In No. 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 37
Nothing to complain about; Jordan Morgan went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 113
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cedric Gray well ahead of where he belonged. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 83
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Calen Bullock at pick 91 is the proof. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Dadrion Taylor-Demerson · S · rank 86
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at safety with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots open.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 98
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Christian Mahogany. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 135
Roger Rosengarten in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Marist Liufau · LB · rank 166
They reached a country mile for Marist Liufau at the 137th overall pick, and the board is aghast. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Tanor Bortolini · C · rank 187
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tanor Bortolini. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.18 · Pick 193 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 226
Frank Gore Jr. at pick 193 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Johnny Dixon · CB · rank 190
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Johnny Dixon at pick No. 202. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Jordan Magee · LB · rank 222
Jordan Magee at Round 6, Pick 44 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Taulia Tagovailoa · QB · rank 288
A wild overpay on Taulia Tagovailoa in the 245th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Jalen Sundell · OT · rank 246
Jalen Sundell is a better player than slot 255 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
