Somebody in pick 141 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Brenden Rice, the No. 113 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
Troy Fautanu in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A conviction pick on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 2, Pick 5 that the board grades a round light. A minor itch, scratched.
They barely believed it either: T.J. Tampa still on the board at pick No. 68. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Luke Lachey went about where he belonged in pick 100. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Zak Zinter in No. 104. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Brenden Rice in slot 141 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Keith Randolph Jr. in the 182nd pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy little value on Kaimon Rucker in the Round 7 slot, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
