Chicago Bears

The Bears worked the phones like thieves and earned a B.

The trade table was a mismatch, and the Bears were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

The Lampkin reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Luther Burden III · WR · rank 22
In the 24th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide. A real need, handled.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Jihaad Campbell · LB · rank 37
They took Jihaad Campbell at par in Round 2, Pick 7, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Colston Loveland · TE · rank 24
Colston Loveland at the Round 2 slot is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · Malaki Starks · S · rank 26
The board fumbled Malaki Starks all the way to the 50th pick, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R2.20 · Pick 52 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 54
TreVeyon Henderson at No. 52 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.8 · Pick 72 · Charles Grant · OT · rank 90
A real head-scratcher, Charles Grant in slot 72 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Donovan Jackson · OT · rank 64
Donovan Jackson slipping to pick No. 76 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
R4.21 · Pick 123 · Oluwafemi Oladejo · LB-EDGE · rank 140
Oluwafemi Oladejo at pick 123 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.10 · Pick 148 · Willie Lampkin · OG · rank 177
They reached a country mile for Willie Lampkin at the 148th pick, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.11 · Pick 149 · Bhayshul Tuten · RB · rank 153
Bhayshul Tuten at the 149th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.17 · Pick 233 · Carson Vinson · OT · rank 226
A clean, defensible pick in No. 233 with a little surplus value in Carson Vinson. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.24 · Pick 240 · Teddye Buchanan · LB · rank 250
A reach on Teddye Buchanan in Round 7, Pick 24; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
