They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop.
The cost of the All reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Adonai Mitchell in the 34th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Patrick Paul in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Braelon Allen at No. 103 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Jarrian Jones at Round 5, Pick 1 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Erick All. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Zion Tupuola-Fetui, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Bub Means in slot 231 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
