The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Dolphins reached some 132 spots for Eric Gentry, and value like that does not grow back.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Moore pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman and running back. The Scott pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
Eli Stowers at the 69th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Keionte Scott in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A curious use of pick No. 94. Interior defensive lineman and running back needed the pick; a cornerback in Devin Moore did not.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Drew Allar. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for Taylen Green, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A quiet steal in slot 199: Jeff Caldwell for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wild overpay on Logan Fano in Round 6, Pick 30, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Eric Gentry in slot 220 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Robert Spears-Jennings at the 227th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Isaac Smith at pick No. 238 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Logan Taylor in the Round 7 slot, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They talked themselves into Joshua Braun at the 250th pick, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
