The rest of the league had time to spare on George Gumbs Jr.; the Eagles did not wait, grabbing him 38 spots ahead at pick 153. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On the needs board they went 8 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 23 they get a building block for the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in No. 54. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Skyler Bell at pick No. 68 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good price on Sam Roush in the 98th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Charles Demmings at the Round 4 slot, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
DeMonte Capehart at the 137th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: George Gumbs Jr. in the Round 5 slot, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Matt Gulbin in pick 178; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Sawyer Robertson in the 197th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
