The rest of the league will want that one back. James Williams tumbling to the Giants in the 183rd overall pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
They are betting Leary proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 10 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Keon Coleman in pick 60. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tyler Nubin in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A premium they did not need to pay, Trey Benson a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, DJ James in Round 3, Pick 26, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Cedric Gray in slot 107 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board fumbled Brenden Rice all the way to pick No. 128, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Matt Goncalves at the 141st overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
James Williams at the 183rd pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Devin Leary at No. 257 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
