New York Giants

The Giants worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+.

Future B-

The Giants treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending slot 166 on Sam Hartman a full 87 spots early. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.

However the rest shakes out, Tracy Jr. at that price is a win they earned. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Kevin Byard pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.9 · Pick 9 · Brock Bowers · TE · rank 5
In the 9th overall pick they get a security blanket over the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 40
Fair-plus on Tyler Nubin, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 73
Trey Benson at pick No. 70 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Mekhi Wingo · DT · rank 101
Mekhi Wingo at No. 107 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.22 · Pick 122 · Brandon Coleman · OL · rank 103
They will replay Brandon Coleman at the Round 4 slot for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 253
This one needs a full-page explanation: Sam Hartman in pick 166, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Tyrone Tracy Jr. · WR · rank 126
You do not let a wide receiver like Tyrone Tracy Jr. reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
