The Giants treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending slot 166 on Sam Hartman a full 87 spots early. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
However the rest shakes out, Tracy Jr. at that price is a win they earned. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Kevin Byard pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 9th overall pick they get a security blanket over the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
Fair-plus on Tyler Nubin, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Trey Benson at pick No. 70 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Mekhi Wingo at No. 107 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Brandon Coleman at the Round 4 slot for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Sam Hartman in pick 166, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
You do not let a wide receiver like Tyrone Tracy Jr. reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
