There is reaching, and then there is Curtis Jacobs at slot 124. The Cowboys jumped the board by 51 and dared it to prove them wrong.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. On the needs board they went 2 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most. The back end got a real overhaul.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in the 56th pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A wild overpay on Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 87, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They talked themselves into Curtis Jacobs at pick 124, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Michael Barrett at par in No. 174, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Daequan Hardy at the 212th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dwight McGlothern in pick No. 245 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
