The rest of the league will want that one back. Jalon Kilgore tumbling to the 49ers in the 127th pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The cost of the Iheanachor reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 27 they get a blindside protector, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They jumped the gun on Chase Bisontis, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 27 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Bishop Fitzgerald in the 133rd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Oscar Delp in pick No. 138. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No edge and no loss on Chris McClellan in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
