You could see the war room lean forward. Cam Skattebo at slot 215 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback, wide receiver and other spots went begging.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 23 they get a sticky cover corner at a price that makes it sweeter.
A curious use of the Round 2 slot. Quarterback, wide receiver and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Will Johnson did not.
Tate Ratledge at pick 47 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tight end of that caliber at the 54th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Tyleik Williams was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 14, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It fills a real need, too.
Deontae Lawson in the 113th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board fumbled Barrett Carter all the way to pick No. 122, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
They will replay Danny Stutsman at slot 148 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Circle this one: Keon Sabb at Round 5, Pick 14 is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Taking Cam Skattebo in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
