Nobody else had C.J. Hanson anywhere near pick No. 184. The Dolphins did, by 80 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Suamataia. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
They liked Sedrick Van Pran enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 2, Pick 31. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They robbed the room for Kingsley Suamataia here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Trevor Keegan at pick No. 158. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A real head-scratcher, C.J. Hanson in pick 184 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A cornerback of that caliber at slot 198 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Johnny Dixon in Round 6, Pick 36 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Evan Williams at pick No. 215 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Good price on Michael Barrett in pick 241, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
