You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bears did exactly that with Michael Trigg in slot 57. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
The Crawford value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will answer for taking tight end early while interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots went begging.
They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a building block for the line, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
They reached into another round for Michael Trigg, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Kyle Louis at No. 60 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A curious use of pick No. 89. Interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots needed the pick; a tight end in Joe Royer did not.
Keyron Crawford in the 129th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
