You can hear the double-takes from here. The Broncos took Keanu Koht at No. 257, roughly 188 spots before his name belonged. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They left with linebacker solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
They reached a country mile for Harold Perkins Jr. at the 62nd overall pick, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a wide receiver like Antonio Williams reach Round 4, Pick 8 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Malachi Fields in pick 111 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value with a capital V on Rayshaun Benny in the 170th pick, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Isaiah Nwokobia at the Round 7 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Eric O'Neill at No. 256 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Keanu Koht well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
