Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jude Bowry got past him. The Colts do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 156. No fireworks, but a solid B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Ty Simpson in slot 47 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Davison Igbinosun at pick No. 78 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Deion Burks at pick 113 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jude Bowry reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nice patience on Kobe Baynes, who had no business lasting to the 214th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board had Jaren Kanak higher than Round 7, Pick 33, and the tight end fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Brent Austin slid further than he should have, and No. 254 is lovely value for the cornerback. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
