The Jets spent real capital to be 54 picks early on Drew Allar, and the board is going to hold them to it. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it. Landing Cleveland that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 2 they get a three-down runner. A real need, handled.
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get a No. 1 receiver, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Peter Woods in No. 33 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
CJ Allen in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Drew Allar this early at the 103rd overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Domani Jackson at pick No. 140 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached a country mile for Quintayvious Hutchins at pick No. 179, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Chase Roberts at pick 228 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It fills a real need, too.
A slide stopped in Round 7, Pick 26, with Brandon Cleveland worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
