Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent pick 160 on Owen Heinecke, a name most had 88 spots down the list. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
On value alone, Reed-Adams makes the weekend a net positive. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
Jacob Rodriguez at slot 52 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jalon Kilgore in the 84th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Caleb Douglas at the Round 4 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Owen Heinecke at Round 5, Pick 20 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Ar'maj Reed-Adams in pick 201 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Riley Nowakowski at No. 236. The roster fit checks out.
Xavier Nwankpa in the 255th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
