The Patriots looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Bryce Boettcher at Round 2, Pick 31 regardless, 112 picks early. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
However the rest shakes out, Corleone at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 31 they get an anchor for the offensive line at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Bryce Boettcher. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They jumped the gun on Bud Clark, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at slot 125 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Sam Hecht at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Nadame Tucker at pick No. 171 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Le'Veon Moss in Round 6, Pick 10, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
