For all the boxes ticked, the Cowboys skipped the loudest one: wide receiver is exactly as bare as it was. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
If Morris pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. On value alone, Beebe makes the weekend a net positive. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a sticky cover corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at pick 56 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Cooper Beebe higher than the Round 3 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tommy Eichenberg at slot 124 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach for Michael Barrett in the 174th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid up for Daequan Hardy at the 212th pick when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A conviction pick on Chris Morris at No. 245 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
