The Tyler Baron pick is the one that will follow the Patriots into the fall. They took him 47 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
Thornton Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through safety.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 14 they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Tyler Booker in pick No. 38; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value with a capital V on TreVeyon Henderson in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Deone Walker at the 77th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tyler Baron in the 106th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Hollin Pierce at Round 5, Pick 6. The roster fit checks out.
A real head-scratcher, Jabbar Muhammad in the 217th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Somehow Dont'e Thornton Jr. was still sitting there in the 220th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, CJ Dippre went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 22. It fills a real need, too.
