This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Logan Jones, the No. 91 name on the board, stolen at pick 113.
Caldwell has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Joshua Josephs at Round 2, Pick 7, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
D'Angelo Ponds at the 49th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nice patience on Christen Miller, who had no business lasting to slot 66. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Skyler Bell in pick No. 99 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Logan Jones still on the board at pick 113. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They read the board right and Dametrious Crownover was the payoff at the 154th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 162 with a little surplus value in Zxavian Harris. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Marlin Klein at pick No. 163 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reach for Jeff Caldwell in the Round 5 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
J'Mari Taylor in pick 196 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
A slide stopped in slot 250, with Brent Austin worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value with a capital V on Jalen Huskey in No. 253, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
